Seneca Diabetes Foundation Accepting 2010 Scholarship Applications

With diabetes affecting approximately 50 percent of the adult Seneca population, SDF is leading the effort to research and combat this disease and supports students wishing to enter the health/service/medical profession.

Each of the scholarships focus on a central theme in order to best fit an applicant’s individual talents. While a student can apply for more than one scholarship, the application questions are designed so that a student’s specific strength or experience would be most effectively conveyed in a particular scholarship. Below are the scholarships and their topics:

  1. Barry and Deanna Snyder, Sr. Chairman’s Scholarship:  $10,000 over two years with a focus on students who have experience in a leadership position.

  2. Maurice and Karen John Treasurer’s Scholarship:  $5,000 awarded annually.  The recipient will have demonstrated situations where he or she has played an integral role in a teamwork setting.

  3. Seneca Gaming Corporation Scholarship:  $5,000 awarded annually to a student who has shown to have a commitment to community service and volunteerism.

  4. Ruth Goode Nursing Scholarship:  Open only to students pursuing a degree in nursing, the recipient of this $5,000 scholarship will have demonstrated qualities that Ruth Goode embodied throughout her long and illustrious career.

  5. Geraldine Memmo Scholarship:  For students who have shown an interest in Seneca and/or Native American history. $5,000 will be awarded to a student who demonstrates knowledge about our peoples’ rich and diverse heritage.
