Seneca Diabetes Foundation Founder and Chairman Barry Snyder, Sr. and Deanna Snyder Commemorate Fifth Anniversary Chairman’s Ball
NIAGARA FALLS, NY — The Seneca Diabetes Foundation (SDF) held its Fifth Anniversary Chairman’s Ball Gala at Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel on Saturday, February 6, 2010. Chairman Barry and Deanna Snyder were the events Honorary Chairs. JC Seneca and Michael R. Militello were the co-chairs.
More than 500 guests enjoyed an evening of “old” Las Vegas with entertainment by Darlene Ceglia’s Dance Project and Sandy Hackett’s Rat Pack. This year’s Presenting Sponsor was Independent Health, who has been a long-time partner of the Seneca Diabetes Foundation through their “Good for the Neighborhood” program.
Founder and Chairman Barry Snyder, Sr. recognized the challenging economic conditions that have made fundraising difficult over the past two years, and thanked sponsors for their continued support of the Foundation.
“Tonight we are making a difference in the lives of Seneca Nation members and others affected by this disease,” said Chairman Barry Snyder. “Through your generous support we are confident that we are poised for success in finding a cure for diabetes.”
This year, more than 55 companies attended the Chairman’s Ball Gala through generous sponsorship donations. In addition to Independent Health’s presenting sponsorship highly notable sponsors include LPCiminelli as the cocktail sponsor, Try-It Distributing and Harter Secrest LLP as diamond sponsors.
JC Seneca, Seneca Diabetes Foundation Co-Chairman announced a new scholarship that will be offered to Seneca Nation students who are pursuing graduate degrees. The new scholarship will be named in memory of his mother June M. Seneca and will be awarded annually to two Seneca students enrolled in graduate studies in the medical or health-related field.
“In order to fight this disease, we know that the Seneca Nation needs medical and health-care related professionals that will devote their life’s work to this cause, so in honor of my mother, another SDF scholarship will be made available to Seneca Nation students pursuing a graduate degree,” said JC Seneca.
Founder and Chairman Barry Snyder, Sr. formed the Seneca Diabetes Foundation in 2004 when he decided something needed to be done about the alarming number of Seneca Nation members with diabetes. In fact, diabetes strikes one in two Seneca Nation members. With a mission of providing education outreach, prevention awareness and fund research to improve the lives of Seneca Nation members, the Seneca Diabetes Foundation has already raised more than two million dollars through the annual Golf Classic, Chairman’s Ball and various other events.
Proceeds raised from the Chairman’s Ball will continue to help support a Seneca Diabetes Foundation partnership with Women’s and Children’s Hospital Foundation of Buffalo, and continue to make clinical advancements at the Seneca Nation Health Department.
The Seneca Diabetes Foundation also awards annual scholarships to graduating high school seniors from the Seneca Nation choosing to pursue a higher education in the healthcare field.
